Wine with Story, Soul, and Songlines.

Mitu means
‘Me & You’
in Torres Strait
Islander Creole.

It is an invitation to gather, to lean into
the curiosity of conversations, and to
celebrate each other.

It’s a philosophy shared in every bottle.

Collection

Connected by sea-country from the islands of Zenadth Kes in the Torres Strait - to Wadandi Boodja in the Margaret River Region, my own songlines have always led me back to the ocean. It is here, amidst coastal vineyards and waterways, that my story takes root.

I am Florence Drummond , founder of Mitu Wines, an Indigenous wine brand built with the sole purpose of bringing people together.

Walking with the Wadandi people and upholding our care for Country - sustainability remains at the heart of the Mitu label. The wines themselves are a testament to this land, and an expression of the region’s unique climate; and astonishing biodiversity.

Mitu is a story of belonging. A journey through saltwater lands, and a celebration of ‘me and you.’

This is Mitu. This is my story. This is our story.

The Story

How Mitu began

Empty canoe at river shore
Succulent plants thriving on ocean read rocks
Ocean water, foamy top in between rocks as it crashes
High heels beautifully hanging from canoe rim adn two bottles of wine on the sand

Chapter 1:

The Ocean –
My Upbringing

The ocean is my first memory.

Its salt on my skin, its rhythm in my breath, its stories in my bones. Growing up on the lands of the Saltwater People on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait, I learned early that the sea is not just a place—it is a living, breathing connection to who we are. It taught me resilience, abundance, and the power of belonging. These are the lessons I carry with me, from the tides of my childhood to the lands of my future.

My journey has been one of contrasts:

From the tropical paradise of Thursday Island to the red dust of outback mining, and to the abundant Country of Wadandi Boodja, reminds me that the path is simple, but not always easy. What I have observed across the continents I have travelled to, the conversations that I led in Boardrooms, Industry Forums, Government delegations and on global stages is that we are all driven to do what it takes to survive in the contexts of our own worlds, is that collaboration is our greatest opportunity for sustainable success.

Along the way, I broke barriers. Named Australia Day Citizen of the Year in Weipa to being recognized as one of 40 Under 40 by Australian Business News, these accolades were milestones. But they were also reminders of how far I’d come—and how much further we still have to go.

Chapter 2:

The Land –
My Journey

There came a point when the weight of it all caught up with me. The relentless pace, the pressure to prove myself—it became too much. The noise grew too loud, and the rhythm of life felt out of sync.

But then, I found Wadandi Boodja. Here, the land speaks a different language. Slower, kinder, more in tune with the heartbeat of the earth. The ocean wraps around this place on three sides, cradling it like a mother holds her child. The ancient caves and forests whisper stories of resilience, survival, and connection. It was here that I began to heal.

Here, I found a sense of belonging I hadn’t known I was searching for.
Chapter 3:

The Wine –
Founding Mitu

Mitu is more than a label.

It’s a statement. A word I discovered in an old settler’s dictionary, created to bridge the gap between cultures, now becomes a bridge of my own. It’s a reminder that language, like wine, can connect us to our past and our future.

This wine is my tribute to the ocean that shaped me, the land that sustains me, and the community that inspires me.

Without the ocean, there would be no life.

Without the land, there would be no grapes. And without both, there would be no Mitu. This wine is the culmination of my journey—a journey that began with the saltwater of the Torres Strait and found its home in the vineyards of Wadandi Boodja. It’s a reminder that we are all connected, to each other and to the earth. Every bottle of Mitu is a celebration of that connection, a tribute to the lands and waters that sustain us, and an invitation to savour the beauty of belonging.

Chapter 4:

The Connection –
Ocean, Land,
Wine

"This is more than wine.
It’s a story, a connection,
a celebration. Thank you
for being part of it."
